Kelly Breez
TUNED UP / BOILED DOWN
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 5 - May 10th, 2025
KDR is excited to announce "TUNED UP / BOILED DOWN," a solo exhibition by South Florida native Kelly Breez, opening from April 5 through May 10, 2025. This exhibition celebrates the artist's deep connection to industrial materials and the distinctive spirit of Florida's unique landscape.
The exhibition highlights the beauty of imperfection and the artistic value found in often-overlooked spaces such as boat yards, backyards, junkyards, and scrap yards. Breez will transform the gallery into a tribute to the quirky and weathered schemes characteristic of semi-modern Florida life, particularly in the beloved and sacred space known as The Yard.
Drawing inspiration from outsider and folk art traditions, Breez combines various industrial materials to create works that bridge the gap between lawn ornament and fine art. Her process involves extensive experimentation with epoxy, industrial foams, grouts, and cement, resulting in expressions that meld feminine aesthetics with the traditionally masculine world of construction and industrial materials.
Breez's work honors naturally occurring messes and vintage materials that possess character. Inspired by South Florida's ongoing construction zones while celebrating eccentricity in an era of conformity.
Kelly Breez (b. 1985) received a BFA in Visual Arts from the New World School of the Arts in 2008. Her works have been exhibited recently at venues such as Faena Project Room in Miami Beach, FL; Dale Zine at NADA in New York, NY; Subliminal Projects in Los Angeles, CA; Half Gallery BARN, Middlefield, MA; and The Bass Museum in Miami Beach, FL. She has a large-scale and permanent work of public art at the Virgin Voyages terminal in Miami, FL; and a new upcoming permanent piece through Miami-Dade Art in Public Spaces. She lives and works in Miami, Florida.
