Deep Sea, Swallow Me

KDR x LSS Pop-Up

54E Henry Street, NY, NY

January 24- March 9th, 2025

KDR is thrilled to announce a special pop-up exhibition at 54E Henry Street in collaboration with Long Story Short Gallery. "Deep Sea, Swallow Me" is a solo exhibition by painter Alexis Trice, marking her latest exploration of the ocean, human emotion, and memory and desire. The exhibition opens on January 24th and will remain on view through March 9th.

Drawing from the mystique and power of the sea, "Deep Sea, Swallow Me" takes viewers on a journey into the vast horizon, where both promise and terror reside. Through this body of work, Trice captures the radiant beauty of sunlight on water, alongside the shadows of hidden creatures—metaphors for the complexities of the human subconscious.

The exhibition explores how energy—emotional and molecular—transfers and ripples through time. Water, as a universal symbol, holds our collective traumas, joys, fears, and hopes. Trice's paintings reflect the way these emotions cycle and evolve, much like water itself, endlessly flowing and transforming.

In addition to water, pearls emerge as a key symbol in the work. The slow process of a pearl forming within an oyster becomes a metaphor for memory—layered, hardened, and full of meaning. Like memories crystallized deep within us, pearls capture the unfolding of time and the cyclical nature of emotional and physical change.

Candles, another focal point in the exhibition, evoke the fleeting nature of existence itself. Their delicate flames symbolize hope, while the melting wax serves as a visual reminder of time slipping away—an ebb and flow like the ocean’s constant rhythm.

Deep Sea, Swallow Me is an invitation to explore the emotional undercurrent that hides sometimes just below the surface both in the natural world and within ourselves.
